I'm having a fair crack at learning "Gretchen am Spinnrade" which is the Lizst arrangement of the famous Schubert Lieder work. I would ask advice of any accomplished pianist that knows either the work, or any of Liszt's other arrangements of Schubert lieder - what's the trick to pulling off the melody?

With “Gretchen am Spinnrade” and some 600 other songs for voice and piano, Schubert contributed transformatively to the genre of Lied. Gretchen am Spinnrade is a selection of text from Goethe's Faust. It was set to music by Schubert in 1814, op.2, D.118. A challenging work for both pianist and singer, Schubert's setting for soprano voice has been transposed for mezzo-soprano voice as well. "Gretchen am Spinnrade" was Schubert's first successful lied written in 1814 when he was just 16, which is thoroughly impressive considering how well this piece is composed and how highly it compares to his later works.
